469 Iron Maiden – Iron Maiden

In April of 1980 Iron Maiden released their debut studio album.

Recorded at Kingsway Studio the previous December, the album is a shot across the bow for heavy music. With breakneck speeds, ferocious riffs, anthemic melodies, and the dulcet tones of original singer Paul Di’Anno, the album heralded the arrival of The British New Wave of Heavy Metal.

  1. I will say this for Iron Maiden and Megadeath and Motörhead and Helloween and various bands of this type: their albums do what they say on the tin. They have their band names in the stupid heavy metal font, often with an umlaut or two, and they put zombie skeletons on their album covers, and they dress like gay leather daddies, and their band and album names always involve some form of haunted house shit like death or torture or wolfmen or chluthus and/or have the word “metal” in them. They are not trying to hide what they are. Stupid music for stupid people. You have to respect heavy metal bands for their truth in advertising, if nothing else.
